Bee Bot Mazes – Take Two

Today saw the grade twos take on the bee bot maze making challenge for the second time. After discussing the design process – idea, design, build and test and the problems some of us encountered last week…

  • not agreeing
  • arguing
  • running out of materials
  • not finishing
  • no teamwork
  • not sharing
  • not co-operating
  • over programming the bee-bot
  • constructed all the maze without testing
  • not testing

The grade twos set about creating a maze for their bee-bot that had two left hand turns, two right hand turns and two bridges to go underneath. There was to be no fancy building this week until the bee-bot travelled from the start of the maze to the end. Materials were limited and there needed to be at least five coding tests as the mazes were built.

The noise level wasn’t as loud this week…each team worked together, discussed moves, tested as they went, rebuilt, added coding instructions as they worked towards achieving a result. Not everyone got the chance to use the fancy materials but most groups produced a maze and coded a bee-bot to move around it. A far higher success rate than last week. The excitement was still there as they cheered their bee-bot to make it to the finish 🙂

Smiles all round this week…

The Grade Twos had a great time in the Kitchen this week. There were smiles aplenty 🙂

Just like Becky we managed to come up with some creative ways to use 100s and 1000s. Our favourite was definitely Giant Freckle Biscuits!

Here’s video of some of the creative action in the Kitchen…

FUN Photos…

Today in Info Lit we revised the camera app.
We have to remember to take clear photos not blurry ones! To do this we just need to tap the screen to get the yellow square to help us focus. We also had to remember to make sure we had what we wanted in the frame before we took the picture.
We practiced taking ‘selfies’ by ourselves and with our friends. We definitely had a lot of fun, as some of these photos show…

Fun Photos and Videos

This week we will be learning to use and digital cameras and flip video cameras.
We will be taking lots of fun photos of different scenes around the school.
Of course we will remember to ask every one for their permission before we take or post photos of them. We will only be posting photos of students who have signed their photo permission forms.
We will be very careful not to take photos that make it possible to identify our school. That means we won’t be photographing any logos or signs.
